Extract from the Cheadle and Tean Times, 1949. The use of a large heated stone as a bed-warmer is thought to have caused the death of a 95 year old Cheadle man, whose body was discovered beside a smouldering bed at his home.He is believed to have been overcome by fumes. Victim of the tragedy was Mr Elisha Beardmore of Commonside near Cheadle who lived alone.
