Edward, aged 39 years, was killed at the Homer Pit in Fenton, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire on the 8th of April 1885. There was an explosion which claimed seven lives. Edward's brother, Thomas, aged 47 years died a few days later from his injuries. Thomas's son William aged 18 was also injured but survived.
